Baby Skunks All skunks are striped, even from birth. They may have a single thick stripe across back and tail, two thinner stripes, or a series of white spots and broken stripes (in the case of the spotted skunk). Some also have stripes on their legs.

Can skunks use a litter pan?

Yes, most will. They like to use a corner, so it is best to place their litter pan in a corner of the room where they spend most of their time.

​Are their scent glands removed?

Yes, we have them descented before they go home.

​Do skunks act more like a cat or a dog?

They are somewhat a mix of both. They are sometimes compared to ferrets, who tend to play hard then sleep hard and are most active at dawn and dusk. Skunks each have their own personalities, some are more outgoing and playful and some are more shy and reserved.

What’s better, a boy or girl?

Their personalities vary. Gender doesn’t seem to influence their personalities.

​Are they spayed and neutered?

No. Most veterinarians will not spay or neuter them until they are 4-6 months of age.  Do I need a special permit to own a skunk?
